CLASS 10 SCIENCE – CHAPTER 6: LIFE PROCESSES

🔶 Introduction – Life Processes

Life processes humari body aur plants me jeevan chalane ke liye zaroori chemical aur physical processes hain.
Is chapter me hum nutrition, respiration, transportation, excretion, and control & coordination ke processes ko detail me study karte hain.

Agar aapne previous chapter nahi padha, to pehle Class 10 Science Chapter 5: Periodic Classification of Elements padh sakte hain.

🔶 What Are Life Processes?

Life processes wo processes hain jo organism survive aur grow karne ke liye perform karte hain:

  1. Nutrition – food ko energy me convert karna

  2. Respiration – energy release karna

  3. Transportation – food & oxygen body ke har part me le jana

  4. Excretion – waste removal

  5. Control & Coordination – body activities regulate karna

🔶 1. Nutrition

Definition:

Nutrition ek process hai jisme organism apne liye food prepare ya intake karta hai aur use energy me convert karta hai.

Types of Nutrition

A. Autotrophic Nutrition

  • Organism khud food prepare karta hai

  • Example: Plants (photosynthesis)

Photosynthesis Process:

  • Chlorophyll + Sunlight + CO₂ + H₂O → Glucose + O₂

Equation:
6CO₂ + 6H₂O → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂

B. Heterotrophic Nutrition

  • Organism ready-made food consume karta hai

  • Examples: Humans, Animals

Types of Heterotrophic Nutrition:

  1. Holozoic – Food ingest, digest, absorb

    • Example: Humans

  2. Saprophytic – Dead organic matter digest

    • Example: Fungi

  3. Parasitic – Host se nutrients

    • Example: Cuscuta, Tapeworm

🔶 2. Respiration

Definition:

Respiration wo process hai jisme food se energy release hoti hai.

Types of Respiration

A. Aerobic Respiration

  • Oxygen ke saath

  • Glucose + Oxygen → CO₂ + H₂O + Energy

  • Example: Humans, plants

B. Anaerobic Respiration

  • Oxygen ke bina

  • Glucose → Lactic acid + Energy

  • Example: Muscle cells (strenuous exercise)

  • Alcoholic fermentation: Glucose → Ethanol + CO₂ + Energy (Yeast)

🔶 3. Transportation

In Humans:

Blood transport karta hai oxygen, CO₂, nutrients, hormones.

Components:

  1. Heart – Pumping

  2. Blood – RBC, WBC, Platelets, Plasma

  3. Blood Vessels – Arteries, Veins, Capillaries

Double Circulation System:

  • Right heart → Lungs (oxygenation)

  • Left heart → Body (oxygen-rich blood)

In Plants:

  • Xylem – Water & minerals roots → leaves

  • Phloem – Food (sugars) leaves → rest of plant

🔶 4. Excretion

Definition:

Excretion = Removal of metabolic waste products (toxic) from body

In Humans:

  • Organs: Kidneys, Lungs, Skin, Liver

  • Kidney → urine → urea, excess water, salts

In Plants:

  • Waste stored in leaves, bark, vacuoles

  • Gaseous excretion: Oxygen, CO₂

🔶 5. Control and Coordination

Nervous System

  • Brain, Spinal Cord, Nerves

  • Rapid response, stimuli processing

  • Reflex action: Automatic, involuntary response

Hormonal (Endocrine) System

  • Slow, long-term coordination

  • Glands: Pituitary, Thyroid, Adrenal, Pancreas

  • Hormones regulate growth, metabolism, reproduction

🔶 Important Life Processes in Humans & Plants (Comparison Table)

Process Humans Plants
Nutrition Holozoic Autotrophic (photosynthesis)
Respiration Aerobic & Anaerobic Mostly aerobic
Transportation Blood Xylem & Phloem
Excretion Urine, sweat, lungs Gaseous & solid storage
Coordination Nervous & Hormonal Hormonal (Auxins)

🔶 Diseases Related to Life Processes

  1. Diabetes – Hormonal imbalance (Insulin)

  2. Asthma – Respiration problem

  3. Kidney Failure – Excretion problem

  4. Malnutrition – Nutrition imbalance

🔶 Board Exam Important Points

  • Photosynthesis = only in presence of sunlight & chlorophyll

  • Aerobic vs Anaerobic energy release

  • Blood composition: Plasma, RBC, WBC, Platelets

  • Xylem → only upward, Phloem → both directions

  • Reflex action vs Voluntary action

🔶 Conclusion

Life Processes chapter students ke liye fundamental hai. Nutrition, respiration, transportation, excretion aur coordination ke processes humare daily life aur exams dono ke liye important hai. Board exams me ye high scoring chapter hai aur strong conceptual understanding deta hai.
